Taking care of young children requires maturity, hard work and patience. And don't forget, you will also be adapting to a new culture and trying to establish a solid relationship with the parents and children, you will have to overcome the homesickness. It is a real challenge!

You should be sure you are ready to work a full 12 months before committing to the program.

You may become an au pair in Europe if you:

are between the ages of 17-30 (depends on each country's legislation);
are not married, do not have children or other obligations ;
speak conversational the language of the country you apply for ;
have postsecondary or college diploma (at least the high school graduation diploma);
have never been au pair in that country ;
love children and enjoy caring for them;
Are a communicative, sociable person. If you have childcare experience acquired within a kindergarten, a school or in your family (younger brothers or sisters), than it is a plus ;
Have no criminal record.

The European countries with which Romania was governmental agreements and where you can go as an au pair are:

Britain: maximum age 27 (inclusive)
Germany : maximum age 24 (inclusive)
Holland : maximum age 24 (inclusive)
Italy : maximum age 25 (inclusive)
Spain : maximum age 25 (inclusive)
Denmark : maximum age 29 (inclusive)
Belgium : maximum age 30 (inclusive)
France : maximum age 25 (inclusive)
